  • The Merit Music Scholarship is for students ages 8 to18 with prior or current experience studying privately with a music instructor, or have shown exceptional promise as a musician in school or community performances.

    This Merit Music Scholarship is 100% funded by the Frederick Community College Foundation Office. Selections in this category will be based on a live audition, the student's written statement, and a teacher evaluation.   • This application will be sent to the email address of the reference you provide here. References should be a music teacher or community/school ensemble director. Please be sure the recipient knows this reference request will be arriving to them via email. Important note - this application will be considered incomplete if the reference letter is not submitted by Friday, April 10, 2026.

  • Live Audition Information


    • Location - Auditions will take place at the FCC Visual & Performing Arts Center in JBK Theater (Percussion in Room F146). 
    • Beginner Auditions - Perform two contrasting short pieces (five minutes in length total).
    • Intermediate to Advanced Auditions - Perform one or two contrasting pieces or movements to best showcase student abilities (between five to ten minutes in length total).
    • Percussion Auditions - Perform two contrasting instruments (five minutes in length total).
    • Judging - Criteria, along with the student's statement and the teacher evaluation, will include technique, tone, intonation, expressiveness, and stage presence.
    • Schedule - Audtion dates include
      Saturday, May 16 - Piano, Voice, Guitar, and Percussion
      Sunday, May 17 - Strings, Woodwind, and Brass
    • Look for an email from Dr. Serrano on Sunday, April 26, informing you of the time of your audition.

    Important - Please note, students must audition in person on the scheduled day in order to be considered. Unfortunately, we are unable to make any exceptions.
